Westwing Opens Its First Store in Munich

A New Home & Living Destination on Residenzstraße

With the opening of its new store in Munich, Westwing is expanding its presence with a physical retail location in one of the city's most prestigious shopping districts. Located at Residenzstraße 24, the new store offers approximately 400 square metres of sales area, creating a premium brand environment that combines inspiration, personal consultation and shopping into a holistic customer experience. Gruschwitz GmbH, based in Munich, was responsible for construction management and supervised the implementation through to the successful completion of the project.

The new Westwing store concept seamlessly combines the online and offline shopping experience. Customers can browse, experience the products in person and purchase them immediately through a cash-and-carry concept. The store showcases a carefully curated selection from the Westwing Collection alongside selected partner brands, presented in dedicated themed areas for Living, Dining, Bedroom and Décor. A Flower Market adds another inspiring element to the customer journey. The offering is further complemented by a personal Design Service, providing individual consultation and tailor-made interior design solutions.

From a design perspective, the store is characterised by a balanced interplay between open spatial layouts and clearly defined living environments. Spread across two floors, dedicated areas for Living, Dining, Bedroom and Textiles are complemented by a Design Service area. Clean lines, premium materials and deliberately understated finishes place the focus on the products and their presentation. At the same time, the contrast between the contemporary brand architecture, distinguished by Westwing's signature Ocean Wave brand colour, and the historic building creates a distinctive and expressive identity.

Key design features include the representative entrance area with its LED wall and Flower Market, the "Sofa Catwalk"—a curated stage showcasing Westwing's iconic upholstered furniture—and the striking marble staircase featuring a green base with white veining.

The historic architecture, with its high ceilings and decorative stucco, carefully curated room settings and a subtle signature fragrance create an emotional shopping atmosphere while reinforcing the store's aesthetic identity and distinctive character.

Quality and durability were key considerations in the selection of materials. Oiled oak herringbone flooring, natural materials, premium fabrics, stone and metal finishes, together with low-emission paints, define the store's interior design. The material concept is complemented by a sophisticated lighting scheme featuring warm white illumination and multiple individually controllable lighting scenes, carefully highlighting each of the themed living environments.

With its new Munich store, Westwing caters to a design-conscious, urban and cosmopolitan clientele, appealing both to loyal Westwing customers and to new audiences seeking premium home interiors and personalised interior design consultation within a physical retail environment.
