Zimmermann
Premium fashion from Australia enriches Munich's Maximilianstraße
Zimmermann has been enriching Munich's Maximilianstrasse since November 2024. The high-end fashion house from Australia has its own store on the exclusive promenade in the heart of the Bavarian capital.
Zimmermann is a luxury brand renowned for its effortless elegance, distinctive prints, and feminine design aesthetic. The brand is recognised for its innovative approach to femininity and craftsmanship. Zimmermann has redefined modern luxury with designs that celebrate the style, grace, and confidence of the modern woman.
The store was designed and detailed by Zimmermann’s long-term collaborators, Studio McQualter. As local architect and general contractor, Gruschwitz GmbH from Munich was responsible for implementing and realising their design.
Historic façade in a new light
The façade of the historic building by Bürklein was restored to its original appearance as part of the renovation work proposed by Studio McQualter to respect the building’s heritage and to allow more natural light into the store. The original window openings were restored in accordance with old plans from the city archives and in agreement with the monument protection authority, thereby simultaneously fulfilling Zimmermann's wish for light-flooded, welcoming interiors. The reinstatement of four-part windows emphasizes the antique charm of the building and also underlines the interior design of the store.
Stylish variety in the Munich Zimmermann store
The store features three distinct retail areas, each offering unique stylistic elements that work harmoniously to create the atmosphere of the space. The first two rooms welcome visitors with large custom Palladiana floors, striking white high-gloss walls, and original beams. In the third room, visitors are captivated by the striking recessed mirrored ceiling above burnished russet gloss walls. The separate lounge area’s centrepiece is a stunning stainless-steel fireplace, framed by a custom mirror and aluminium shelving. The room features a mix of vintage and new pieces, from a pair of Dutch Art Deco armchairs to the seventies Italian Murano chandelier, adding a touch of historic sophistication to the room. Zimmermann’s Munich location exemplifies the brand’s commitment to creating retail environments that are both sophisticated and in tune with their surroundings. The blend of historical and contemporary features provides a rich and inviting backdrop for the brand’s elegant collections.
