Munich's new
Scene address at Elisabethplatz
ELI - Soul food meets design
ELI, the new soul food restaurant and bar at Elisabethplatz 20, brings a breath of fresh air to Munich's gastronomic scene. Covering around 305 m², ELI invites you to enjoy culinary experiences and relax - a place where enjoyment, design and emotion form a perfect symbiosis.
The concept is aimed at a young, trend-conscious audience and was designed, planned and realised by Gruschwitz GmbH. From the initial sketch to completion, the Munich-based interior design firm was responsible for all phases of the project, including construction supervision. After a construction period of just five months, ELI officially opened its doors on 3 April 2025.
Zoning as the centrepiece of the Eli room concept
The spacious dining room has been cleverly divided into two different worlds of experience.
- Blue area (bar): Here, stained wood and large-format tiles dominate the bar, walls and ceiling. This design breaks up the classic room edges and emphasises the dynamic character of the bar.
- Red area (restaurant): Cosiness and an inviting atmosphere take centre stage in this section. Natural oak, parquet flooring and warm beige tones lend the room a relaxed elegance. An elaborately hand-painted wall is emotionally emphasised by targeted lighting.
The areas are separated by the „Wiesnbox“, inspired by Munich's regulars' table culture and the Oktoberfest, flanked by a seating niche opposite. These elements not only create variety in the seating, but also offer a charming reference to local tradition. Additional flexibility is provided by two acoustic curtains that separate the room for events if required.
Modern design with a Bavarian twist
The acoustic elements on the ceiling are a highlight of the design concept. With oversized wood grain prints, they pick up on classic elements of Bavarian pub culture and translate them into a contemporary design language. The striking grid design is continued selectively on the walls and ensures that the long room is visually organised and broken up.
A large-scale wallpaper with a modern artistic interpretation of Empress Elisabeth „Sissi“ of Austria at the front of the dining room is an unmissable eye-catcher - a stylish salute to Elisabethplatz and its patron saint, combining tradition and zeitgeist.
Materials and lighting concept
The design is based on an elegant combination of light and dark wood, large-format tiles and finely coordinated textile elements that lend the room warmth and character. The track system with flexibly adjustable spotlights ensures maximum adaptability and enables targeted illumination - ideally matched to variably arranged groups of tables. Pendant luminaires in selected areas round off the lighting concept and create atmospheric accents and an inviting, cosy atmosphere.
