Customers who appreciate an alternative to modern throwaway culture and are characterised by conscious consumer behaviour have been getting their money's worth in Munich since autumn 2023. Kaerly is a new interior and lifestyle universe with an integrative approach. The name of the interior design brand, which has its roots in Denmark, is inspired by the Danish adjective "kærlig", which means loving and tender.
The range includes responsibly produced, durable furniture characterised by Danish design tradition and Scandinavian simplicity.
The newly opened studios in Sonnenstrasse and Buttermelcherstrasse are not just retail outlets. Instead, inviting, creative and communal spaces are intended to inspire visitors to design their own living spaces. Participation in open events is just as much a part of the concept as small talk over a cup of coffee or a snack. There is no obligation to buy.
Conception, planning and realisation
Gruschwitz GmbH from Munich was responsible for the conception, planning and realisation of the two Kaerly Studios interior designs in Munich. Kaerly's style was characterised by Scandinavian minimalism. Less is more! Simplicity, natural materials, good craftsmanship, serenity and uncomplicated practicality characterise the interior and give the products space. White as the basic colour lends the rooms radiance, with pastel shades as punctual colour accents in the bunks underlining the product range. Wood is the central material on the upper floor in the form of oak parquet of regional origin. On the ground floor, on the other hand, a mild, sand-grey limestone (Gotland limestone) with warm colour tones is used. The brushed surface creates a texture with a natural feel. High-quality track spotlights were used for the lighting.
In the entrance area, a small café with seating welcomes customers and creates a cosy atmosphere. Coffee, cakes and vegan snacks are offered here in cooperation with the company Organic Garden. All dishes are made from regional and organic ingredients - in keeping with the Kaerly philosophy.
Find inspiration and get creative yourself
So-called "co-creation spaces" are located between the spacious sales areas on each floor. Sample fabrics, materials, moods and sample furnishings are presented here. Customers can find inspiration here and get creative themselves.
The staircases, which are located in the centre of the room, are particularly eye-catching. In Buttermelcherstrasse, this is a beautiful staircase from an old building. In order to preserve the patina and the charm of the old building, the wooden floor was only lightly sanded and refitted. The handrail was only repaired in places and repainted.
In Sonnenstraße, the old stainless steel stair railing was replaced with a new, timeless white powder-coated stair railing with an oak handrail.
Design and interior design of Kaerly Studios in Munich
Particular emphasis was placed on the generous interior design of the staff rooms as an expression of appreciation for the Kaerly team. The staff kitchen has a cosy seating area, and an additional relaxation room, a shower and a barrier-free WC were added - in return, additional sales space was dispensed with.
