The station in Renningen is one of the 16 so-called "stations of the future" that Deutsche Bahn is using to test innovative concepts. With the Edeka 24/7 prototype, a building with a container look was installed.
EDEKA Südwest and DB would like to present a digital and fully automated shopping experience to people in the area, as well as to rail travellers and commuters.
The system, which was installed by the company Smark from Stuttgart, largely manages without personnel. Our office was responsible for the realisation of the prototype and for the project management on site. We succeeded in combining the sober robot logistics with the emotional elements of a barista bakery.
The backshop is not only the emotional face of the container, but is also responsible for refilling, as well as for the cleanliness and security of the building. Reducing the number of staff is not the main focus; instead, trained IT staff and qualified backshop sales staff are required.
The bakery shop is open to customers from 6.00 am to 6.00 pm, after which the baked goods are made available for sale with payment on a trust basis.
The transverse upper container is suitable for clubs, meetings or possibly later for a café bar. Here you can chill outside on the east and west terraces, depending on the time of day and weather.
The prototype meets all the standards and energy-relevant requirements of a sustainable building and is already a landmark in Renningen with its overseas container look.
