International Home + Housewares Show

Die International Home & Housewares Show in Chicago ist seit Jahrzehnten die unangefochtene Nummer 1 in Nord- und Mittelamerika. Veranstaltungsort ist traditionell der McCormick-Place, ein aus drei großen und modernen Ausstellungshallen bestehendes Areal am Lake Michigan.

Auch in diesem Jahr wurden über 10.000 Produktneuheiten vorgestellt. Neben Sonderausstellungen und -präsentationen konnten Messebesucher aber auch Seminare zu Themen wie Trends und Design, Visual Merchandising und Markenbildung besuchen.

gia Juror Wolfgang Gruschwitz

Die IHA Global Innovation Awards (gia) wurden mit dem Ziel geschaffen, die Innovationen der Haushaltsbranche zu bewerten. Der zweistufige Wettbewerb ist national bzw. global gegliedert. Co-Sponsoring der gia Awards Programme sind über 25 weltweite Haushaltswaren und Handelspublikationen, die durch nationale gia Programme in den jeweiligen Ländern gesponsert werden.

Seit dem Start von gia im Jahr 2000 gab es über 450 gia Einzelhandel Preisträger, aus 45 Ländern auf sechs Kontinenten. Geschäftsführer Wolfgang Gruschwitz ist seit 2003 festes Mitglied der gia Expert Jurors. Die diesjährigen gia Gewinner lauten:

Loft (Japan)

  • A store that invites to explore and try things
  • Good floor plan, great use of space
  • Beautiful lighting, combining different techniques – a lot of drama created with lighting
  • Very dynamic 3-d signs and graphics
  • Great in mixing lifestyle merchandising with stack merchandising
  • Hosts bloggers, influencers

Potten & Pannen – Staněk (Eastern Europe)

  • Very strong and professional overall performance
  • Great job with entertaining – in-store events including culinary classes, training, very professionally executed cooking academy
  • The strong lifestyle graphics provide a great contrast, highlighting the beautiful products
  • Beautiful display units and materials, creating a warm, stylish background to products – there is a museum feel
  • Strong use of repetition in displays
  • Great in merging website with the brick & mortar store – there is truly inspiring content available online, bringing the store alive online

Green with Envy (New Zealand)

  • Started as an online retailer – successfully adapted the concept to a brick & mortar store
  • Very strong overall performance
  • A store with a lot of character, truly a store that you want to visit – with a sense of discovery
  • Highly curated product offering
  • Good selection of local merchandise, active in bringing in local craftspeople
  • A lot of excitement around, innovative events and activities
  • Very good in creating social media loops/activity, based on innovative activities in store – including an interactive Facebook campaign, “take a photo with Santa”

Borough Kitchen (United Kingdom)

  • Very successful in combining the online and offline stores
  • All staff are very passionate about cooking and this is required – when applying for a job at Borough Kitchen, you are asked to include a recipe in your application
  • There are a lot of sensory things happening in the store
  • Very innovative business practices, including product library for staff and a special Borough Kitchen Spotify list that customers can download and take home
  • There are iPads in the aisles for product information and instructions
  • There is a price match policy against Amazon
  • Great, innovative promotions
  • Beautiful, clean online store

Rustan’s Department Store (Philippines)

  • A very sophisticated retailer
  • There is a great sense of hospitality
  • Very strong visual merchandising, strong with themes, great variation in displays – good use of color and different heights in displays
  • Beautiful table settings
  • There is a lot of green in the store, green walls and plants & flowers used in displays – creating a sense of nature, an atmosphere that appeals to senses
  • Looking at specific display techniques, framing the displays in the windows is very effective, beautiful
